Your mission, their ideas: boost your innovation with...
For the past 3 years, this Kedger has been making a hit with his clothing brand
Thibault Negra , a 2013 KEDGE graduate, is now the head of his own company: Maison Cornichon
For three years now, Maison Cornichon has offered a simple and well thought out alternative to faddish logo t-shirts. Its goal has stayed same: "we want to improve the wardrobes of people looking for quality and skill, while working as much as possible with our regions (knitting and manufacturing). At first we specialised in t-shirts, and now want to develop our winter range with the help of the Ulule platform”.
- To begin, tell us about your educational background. What did you study, both before and at KEDGE?
In 2008, I enrolled in the French-English EBP international programme in Bordeaux campus and had five years that were rich in experiences and travel. The school was called BEM at the time and its motto “responsible management” spoke to me.
- Tell us about your course once your studies were finished. What positions have you held? What did you learn in those positions?
My time at Pinko in Northern Italy, and then at Mango's headquarters in Barcelona, gave me the chance to discover the fashion world as well as the issues that would revolutionise this sector, such as the decline of fast-fashion giving way to the rise of responsible fashion. Those experiences gave me the desire to start a responsible project in which I could follow the entire production chain.

- What is your current situation? What gave you the idea and desire to do what you are doing today?
I created my own clothing brand, Maison Cornichon, three years ago with the aim of offering simple and well-thought out alternative to faddish logo t-shirts. By meeting those actors in the French textile industry who are still in activity, we are able to develop products that are completely artisanal and locally produced. The knitting factory uses the same looms it did when it opened in the 1950s. Since then, our range has grown: colours, styles, sweatshirts, and sweaters knitted and produced in France. From 2020, all our production will be made of organic cotton (currently 60% of our range is produced from organic cotton). We are also working with the Japanese market where a dozen prestigious boutiques have been presenting our collections for five seasons (Isetan, United Arrows, and soon, Beams).
- Thibault, anything else to add?
Maison Cornichon is testing pre-order sales with a 20% discount on its new winter collection, made with high-end materials.
