Class of 1984: 40 years on, a reunion full of memories...
A lung transplant recipient with cystic fibrosis, this Kedger has completed the Paris Marathon!
On Sunday during the World Organ Donation Day, Alexandre Allain, a 26-year-old Kedger, completed the 42.195 km Paris Marathon at the side of the surgeon who operated on him four years earlier.
Alexandre, from Chantenay-Villedieu, has been preparing for this event for many months and has followed a high-level programme to achieve his goal: run and finish the Paris marathon.
Despite having cystic fibrosis, a disease that affects nearly 6,000 people in France, and having had a double lung transplant four years ago, Alexandre accomplished the feat of finishing the Paris Marathon in 5 hours 31 minutes. During the entire race, he was accompanied by his surgeon, Antoine Mugniot, who had decided to accompany his young patient in his crazy adventure, even though hadn't adequately prepared and had never run such a long distance.
This is just one more amazing feat for Alexandre, who has already completed a tour of Europe of more than 10,000-kilometres in 2015, a cross-Atlantic sailing trip cut short by the Covid crisis, and the writing of a book about his own story, Un souffle d’espoir, in September 2021.
