A Kedger launches Kids Car, a business that specialises in the sale of electric cars for children
Graduated from KEDGE in 2018, Fares Elahcene is the founder and Director of Kids Car.
To begin with, tell us about your educational background. What did you study at KEDGE and before you attended KEDGE?
I decided to enrol in KEDGE’s post-bac programme Kedge Bachelor because I didn’t want to take a preparatory course. I was immediately attracted to the programme’s concept: “three years to get exposed to all viewpoints”. The programme allowed me quickly gain work experience.
Designed for action, the school offered programmes and opportunities as from first year (such as Business Game, Pro-Act, real-world problem solving, Be-U, internships, and conferences) that allowed me to gain a global vision of the economic and social world, and especially, how to act in a voluntary and responsible fashion.
The school’s environment and attentive faculty members is great, and I don’t say that lightly! What I noticed at KEDGE is that you will always find support for your projects.
Leaning towards entrepreneurship, I organised an event at school during my first year, a conference with Jean-Phillipe Courtois, the President of Microsoft International, and I further participated in the official kick-off of his support tool for entrepreneurship in Marseille, “Live for Good”.
As I am passionate about sports, during my second year I did an internship in Malta in a Crossfit company as a marketing assistant. There, once again the internship was turned toward entrepreneurship. The company was managed by two young Parisian expatriate entrepreneurs, and I learned an enormous amount at their sides. Finally, for my last year, it was natural for me to choose the "Start-up, Intrapreneurial, and Business Transfer" specialty. I was immediately encouraged to create my business as a result of the courses I took.

What is your current situation? What are your goals for the future?
A month after I started my third year at the school, I launched Kids Car. We specialise in the sale of electric cars for children. With the permission of automobile manufacturers, (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Maserati, etc.) and authorisation from the dealers, the cars are exact replicas. We also act as a service provider for the rental of our children's electric cars during events, which allows children to be distracted in an original and fun way.
Currently, I'm the Director of Kids Car. We have a showroom in Marseille (in the 9th) where we provide our customers with tailored treatment on appointment 7 days out of 7. We have a large presence on social media (Instagram and Facebook). We offer payment options at no cost, in three or four instalments, as well as a quality after-sales service. Responsiveness, availability and satisfaction are our catch-words.
In the medium-term, it is our ambition to develop our sales in all of Europe. What’s more, in regard to a CSR aspect, we want to work with paediatric services to provide them with electric cars. The idea is to reduce the apprehension of children receiving medical treatment by giving them the chance to be transferred to the operating room by car. We also want to keep the cars electric because of its environmental impact. Finally, we hope to hire someone on permanent contract as a graphic designer / community manager within a year.
How has the education you received at KEDGE Business School helped you become who you are today, and what courses helped you in the development of your project?
Thanks to KEDGE, I became more responsible. By that I mean that I take into account environmental and social aspects of my decisions. The totality of the courses I had at school have given me what I need to manage, maintain, and grow my business.
