Valentin Bertrand, KEDGE graduate and Paralympic athlete at the Tokyo Olympics!

2019 KEDGE graduate Valentin Bertrand is a para-athlete and a member of the Team France Paralympic team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Valentin was born in the Hauts-de-Seine in 1995. He was fifteen when he discovered competitive sports after having played several different sports (such as tennis, football, and skiing). Not long afterwards, Valentin was spotted by the FF Handisport and qualified for his first elite World Championships in Lyon in 2013 at the age of 18!

He placed 8th at his first Olympic Games in Rio in 2016, and is looking forward to performing well at the Tokyo Games this summer and achieve several goals: "I have several goals: to beat my personal best in the long jump, perform well in the Paralympics again, and to compete against the best." -  www.bleushandisport.com

Valentin has hemiplegia on his right side and suffers from 50% paralysis in both his arm and leg. He told Team Michelin: "I’ve been hemiplegic since birth. As I was born with this condition, it’s not been a problem for me. It's as if I’m fully able-bodied.” It’s certainly not stopped him from becoming a top athlete who has managed to juggle his competitive life with his academic studies.

Valentin Bertrand has chosen to not sacrifice his studies for his sporting activities. On the contrary! The French athlete decided to continue his studies. After passing his high school leaving exams, he earned a STAPS degree at the Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University before entering KEDGE Business School.
