This Kedger introduces you to a new profession every week through her videos!

Maintenant j’aime le lundi (“Now I Love Mondays”), tries out a different profession for you every week! Hairdresser, massage therapist, sports coach, wine merchant, café manager… what do these jobs look like behind the scenes? What are the advantages and disadvantages that we don’t always hear about? How much do they earn? Each week, Camille and Miguel spend a day with a pro who has agreed to tell us all about it, without any taboos!

INTERVIEW 💬

1️⃣To begin with, tell us about your educational background. What did you study, both before and at KEDGE?

After I got my BAC S, I looked for a short profession programme that would give me the chance to enter the job market quickly. The KEDGE Bachelor (then called Sup TG) was ideal because I learned various concepts such as economics, marketing, communication, and financial analysis as well as doing three internships. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to continue on and get a Master's degree. I passed the SESAME & co exam and finished my academic career in a work/study alternance at ESC Toulouse and Cdiscount.

2️⃣ Tell us what you did after your studies were finished. What positions have you held? What did you learn in those positions?

When my internship at Cdiscount ended, I declined their offer of a permanent contract. I had dipped my toe in the startup world a few months earlier (through organising the first Bordeaux Startup Weekend at BEM!) and I wanted to immerse myself in this "new world". So, I accepted an offer as head of procurement and marketing at Jimmy Fairly. I moved to Paris, which only lasted a little less than a year. I learned a lot but, I quickly felt trapped in the status of an employee. An idea had been floating around in my head for some time, so I went back to Bordeaux to start my first business, Sos Internet, assistance for people harmed by online services. That was in 2012 and I still manage it.

3️⃣ What are you doing / what is your situation today? What gave you the idea and desire to do what are you doing today?

Two years ago, I wanted to have a little more creativity in my daily life. I had been delegating as much as I could in terms of my company and had started learning how to film, frame, edit, and calibrate videos. I learned on my own by taking a lot of MOOCs and watching online tutorials. I met Miguel, who was starting video at the same time as me, and we considered setting up an audio-visual production agency together. But seeing how difficult correctly invoicing our services would be and that, at the end of the day, there would be a lack of creativity involved in meeting very specific requests, we decided to not do it and focus on something more personal. I’d been thinking about testing out jobs since I lived in Paris. We’re very young when we are asked to choose a career path, and we aren’t given the opportunity to learn what possibilities are out there. I had been carrying this frustration around for a long time, so when Miguel offered me the chance to do mini-reports on different and varied types of jobs, I said “I’m in”! Thus, Maintenant j’aime le lundi was born, a mini media that includes a Youtube channel and a website (and a presence on all the social networks that are doing well).

4️⃣What are your development goals for the future?

After a year and a half of producing one to two videos a week, we’ve just passed the symbolic 10,000-subscriber mark on our Youtube channel. We’ve already worked in association with major companies, such as Proman, Air France and Foussier. Our objective is to continue to produce videos to offer an ever-expansive and more varied selection of professions, to expand our community, and to continue to work with companies that want to showcase their professions.

5️⃣ How did your education at KEDGE Business School help you become whom you are today, and which of its courses helped you develop your project?

When I finished high school, I thought I hated school. I enrolled in KEDGE Bachelor programme because it was only a three-year course, a large part of which would be working for companies. Those three years gave me back a taste for studying and I developed a thirst for learning and curiosity that are still part of me today and that I continue to cultivate!

6️⃣ If you had any advice for any KEDGE Alumnus or Alumna who would like to do something similar, what would it be?

Hoping to earn a living by creating content is a marathon. It takes months (or even years on Youtube) before you start seeing any ways of making money. It’s unthinkable to take on such a project without having another source of income. Other than this "logistical detail", the adventure is wonderful, I learn something new every day and get up every morning with pleasure and motivation. That's all that matters to me.

7️⃣ Camille, anything else?

If you know young people who are a little lost as to which direction to take, or older people who dream of a career change, don't hesitate to tell them about “Maintenant j’aime le lundi”. Who knows... maybe they will find their calling 😀
