💬 INTERVIEW
1️⃣Tell us what you did after your studies were finished. What positions have you held?
During my studies, I took a gap year and did an internship in Maui (Hawaii) and another year doing a university exchange in Cape Town. My goal was to combine windsurfing (my great passion) and my professional training. I realised a long time ago that I had no desire to work in a big company. So, I decided to create my company just before I finished schools and launched a company distributing the Maui Ultra Fins brand windsurfing equipment. I developed this brand in France in 2011 - both on the Internet and in specialised shops - which was unusual at the time. I didn't know much about doing business on the Internet. It was extremely formative. E-commerce is hard, but it's also really lucrative. There's nothing better than waking up in the morning and realizing that you've made money during the night, without "doing anything". It also removes almost all professional constraints when it's done well. You can work from wherever you want, whenever you want. Little by little, I managed to add other windsurfing brands to my French distribution over the years and I know manage six windsurfing brands that I am developing in France. Now, after more than 8 years of experience in e-commerce and business development, I’ve decided to create (at the time) my web agency in Narbonne: Tramontana Web.
2️⃣What are you doing/what is your situation today? What gave you the idea and desire to do what are you doing today?
During all these years, I always kept in the back of my mind to develop a subscription-based online software that brings a real added-value to people. It's called a "SAAS" (software as a service) and in my opinion, it’s the ultimate business model, and the most successful today - the Holy Grail. We created Page Site this year, which is software that lets you instantly create a website from a professional Facebook page. Page Site draws elements from your Facebook page and reorganises them to create a website. It’s the fastest and easiest solution today that creates a functional website when you have a local business. I'm still surprised by the way it works. It’s really surprising to be able to create a nice website in 30 seconds without doing anything.
3️⃣What are your development goals for the future?
I'm looking to establish myself permanently in France with this solution and to make Page Site as an even simpler alternative to existing solutions. The goal is above all to reach local businesses that don’t want to have to deal with their website. The solution works, I’m now working on my sales pipeline. I'm trying to get the maximum number of user trials, test ads, landing pages, and telephone speeches to convert. There’s no secret to making it work: you have to test and make comparisons all day in order to optimise your solution. Once it works well in France, well go global without any problem. The solution is already planned out.
4️⃣ How did your education at KEDGE Business School help you become who you are today, and which of its courses helped you develop your project?
I remember that at the time some of my friends from KEDGE and I were already interested in doing business on the Internet. In 2008-2009, the online website for private sales BlaBlaCar had just started, and Amazon was beginning to take off in France. We knew that there was something to do and that made us dream. We needed developers and money because having good ideas doesn’t do you much good. I signed up in a Digital Business Strategy course, which let me take stock of the situation and to get an overview of the world of technology and business models on the Internet.
5️⃣If you had to give advice to any KEDGE Alumnus or Alumna who would like to do something similar, what would it be?
I’d tell them to not hesitate to follow uncommon paths and to try to get work that aligns with their passions. That’s more satisfying and works well. If they have a project, my advice is to quickly get started and to not be afraid of failing.
