While KEDGE Business School is first and foremost focused on preparing men and women for the world of work, it also enjoys welcoming passionate people. Brieuc Goualin (ESC 2003) falls in this category, and today his passion for cars has put him in the spotlight at famous Youtube channel ‘Petrolicious’.
In 2003, Brieuc, then aged 20, arrived at KEDGE Bordeaux in his wheelchair to study a specialised course in auditing. His disability, the result of a serious fall in 1997, led the young student to choose our wonderful school, since it was one of the only ones at the time that was accessible for those with reduced mobility. When applying to university, Brieuc successfully passed his oral exams for 11 schools, before finally choosing the one that best met his physical needs as well as his professional and personal ambitions.
Forgetting his handicap as the years went by, he began his career as a financial controller in various companies, including a lot of travel, then became a financial director of European subsidiaries for foreign groups. Appointed as director of a company in 2012, the company’s primary factory was sadly destroyed in an accidental fire four months after he arrived.
‘I worked overtime, to the detriment of my health, to build a temporary factory and a new one to replace the old one. The after-effects of my disability caught up with me. I was unable to work as of 2014, underwent back surgery in 2015 and am now ready for new challenges’, says Brieuc.
In parallel with his career, he has also been able to put his passion for cars to good use. Among others, he has been Vice President of the French Federation of Remote Control Cars (www.ffvrc.fr), and has treated himself to some beautiful toys from his favourite brand: Lotus, a company that has always focused on clever designs to develop lightweight cars and a smooth ride. To prepare for his return to employment, he is now giving his time to his passion for cars.
This is how a freelance journalist from the famous American site Petrolicious heard about his incredible history, and of his latest purchase: a Lotus Elan +2 from 1972. And so he asked Brieuc to make this short film, which they shot in September 2016, and which was put online in January 2017.
In one month, the video has already exceeded 60,000 views and drawn admiration from thousands of fans.
