Class of 1984: 40 years on, a reunion full of memories...
Created by a KEDGE Alumnus, this real estate agency continues to grow in Alsace.
If there is one profession that is booming these days, it's the real estate agent. From KEDGE Business School to running an agency, Philippe Dierstein (ESC 2008) has quickly moved ahead!
After having spent his childhood and teenage years in the centre of Strasbourg, Philippe entered into a preparatory programme at a local high school to attend HEC, taking the economic track. This two-year programme emphasised maths, languages, and economy. He also learned a number of lessons that he still uses today, particularly regarding his method of working, and that which he tries to instil in his teams.
Following these two intensive years, Philippe decided to continue his studies KEDGE at its Bordeaux campus. There he joined the Arts Club where, with other students, he managed the promotion of the “Tête de l'Art ” project, a street arts festival in Bordeaux. During his time at KEDGE, Philippe made some very close friends, and he remembers Bordeaux as being an exceptional city.
“During my prep school oral exams, at 19-20 years old, I was already talking about starting a business without even knowing when or in what sector I would do it in. I wanted to follow in my parent’s footsteps. My father had founded, then managed, several automobile concessions in Alsace that had about 200 employees. He did that for more than 30 years. My mother managed a Michelin- starred hotel-restaurant in Alsace at which Presidents Giscard d’Estaing and Chirac were regulars,” Philippe told us. “So I had been immersed in the business world for a long time, and I wanted to continue in this direction by creating a business as of my placement year at ESC, in 2006.”
It quickly became apparent that, given his tastes and aspirations to become a businessman, real estate was the best way to go. It’s a varied job that can include activities from real estate development to the activities of a classic real estate agency, and tasks as diverse as prospecting property to purchase or sell, or the day-to-day management of its customer’s real property. It’s an particularly invigorating business where being the perfect professional is not enough when you are working intimately with people on an important life event.
Ten years after having created Beausite Immobilier, and several building projects later as a developer, the agency has eight people and moved its premises in early 2018. “We needed space to grow and work more efficiently, and we absolutely wanted to stay in the centre of Strasbourg. It is all done and we are entering a new chapter of the company with enthusiasm!"
Philippe found two of his passions – football and theatre – at KEDGE. He started acting lessons while at ESC, proof that activities KEDGE Business School can become the passion of a lifetime.
But what does he remember about the education he received at KEDGE? "Even more than theoretical knowledge, the ESC programme trains students in what they will experience in the professional world where they will be immersed in management, financial, or business issues. With the hindsight 10 years provides, business school provides an opportunity experience life with an academic "safety net", and without getting stuck. These are your best years. You can participate in new projects which you won’t have time for. Take advantage of all the opportunities KEDGE offers!".
