A KEDGE Alumnus was selected to participate in the Las Vegas CES!

Michaël Weisz, graduated from the Cesemed in 2009 and will go present his connected armband, Shapeheart, at the CES 2017, after being selected by Business French, which selects the best French Tech.

Hello, Michaël. To start with, can you tell us about your educational background: what did you study at KEDGE and before attending KEDGE?

I joined the CeseMed Programme at KEDGE right after obtaining my scientific Bac. I decided to join the programme because I wanted to do a longer study abroad programme, not just for a semester. The four years I spent and Kedge were rich in teachings, especially on the personal side. Both in Marseille and in Spain. Arriving in a new country when you don't speak the language isn't always easy but it builds character. And even though in my case it was Spain, which remains rather close in terms of culture, my two years in Valence and Madrid really helped me grow.

What did you do once you graduated from KEDGE?

I started working with the groupe Uhlsport, a sports equipment company in the region. After starting out as a Marketing Assistant, I was quickly asked to manage the brand Canterbury, a rugby brand, then Spalding, a basketball brand. At the same time, I was also managing major accounts such as Decathlon, Intersport, Amazon... Over six years, I took on a lot of responsibilities, was able to build a great network in the sports industry, and gained some real skills in terms of distribution and brand management, sponsoring... Then, I worked for a year for another sports equipment company Hungaria. In parallel, over these seven years, I created and was then associated with different sports marketing blogs such as digitalsport.fr or sportbuzzbusiness.fr, which I still contribute to. This experience enabled me to increase my skills in the field and meet a lot of inspiring leaders. It's notably thanks to one of these meetings that I decided to launch Shapeheart.

Tell us about this new adventure.

I am now an entrepreneur. I created my own start-up. At Shapeheart, we conceive innovative and connected sports and running armbands. I had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, I just had to wait for the right opportunity that I believed in 100%, which is the case today. We already received the "Innovation Prize" from Fnac Intel in 2016, as well as the "running innovation prize" from Runners World at the CES 17. We were also selected by Business France on three occasions to represent French Tech at the IFA 17 and CES 17 and 18!

What are your objectives for the future?

The objective is to develop Shapeheart in France. Because even if we have some great distribution contracts, we still have a long road ahead of us. And then, of course, develop the brand internationally, which we already started doing a few weeks ago.

We are actually in the middle of a fundraising operation in order to accelerate and deploy more broadly in Europe. We are also raising funds from business Angels.

How did your time at KEDGE Business School help you build your career?

I think the major strength of Kedge was enabling me develop a real general business culture. To open my mind about a lot of different subjects and of course, open my mind to the outside world. Because, once again, spending two years abroad really helped me grow faster.

What is your advice to kedgers who want to be entrepreneurs?

That they do it! Being an entrepreneur brings with it a lot of supprimes, ups and downs, but its also an incredible adventure. It enables you to learn really fast , if you have the right character.
